One of the council's latest investments is in the Waltham Forest Pool and Track. With the borough of Waltham Forest’s Mini-Holland scheme, reducing the amount of cars on the roads, replacing them with bicycles and now the new Leisure Centre, local residents will certainly live a healthier lifestyle in E17. The new 'Waltham Forest Leisure Centre', will offer residents a brand new, state of the art sport, health and fitness facilities. To do up the main building would have been a costly job so the council has close off the site for demolition work. The track, however, is still available for school use.

www.walthamforest.gov.uk states:

"Swimmers will be able to take a splash in the new 25m, eight lane competition pool, and with 250 seats, spectators will get a good view of the action when the pool is used for gala events. Learners will be able to build their confidence in a new teaching pool while divers can practice on both 1m and 3m diving boards.

Fitness enthusiasts and those just trying to shed a few pounds will be able to use a much larger gym, which will have space for 132 pieces of equipment rather than the 47 that were in the old centre, or try a class in one of the new studios.

And sports fans will be able to make the most of a new four-court sports hall and an outdoor floodlit artificial sports pitch – perfect for a spot of five-a-side footie.

New to the centre will be an extreme sports zone complete with climbing wall and skateboard and BMX areas, and both wet and dry health and wellbeing spa areas which will be run by SPA London.

The scheme will make the centre one of the largest health and sports centres in London, and makes this the last of the borough’s leisure centres to receive an overhaul."

Waltham Forest Leisure Centre will offer free swimming for under 18's, over 60's and disabled residents (including a career) for all local residents. The centre is located next to the newly resurfaced athletics track, just off of Chingford Road and is expected to be fully functioning this autumn.
